The Industry’s First 1000BASE-T1 PHY
Broadcom offers the industry’s most comprehensive portfolio of copper PHY transceivers for the automotive market. These PHYs support 100M and 1000M transmission rates and compatible with the BroadR-Reach platform, IEEE 100BASE-T1, 100BASE-Tx, 1000BASE-T1 standards. This industry-leading, comprehensive PHY portfolio offers integration of features at low power and allows customers to design cost-effective solutions for in-vehicle networking applications. The PHY portfolio offers customers a pin-to-pin compatible solution and provides the flexibility in design qualification effort.
The BCM8988X is the industry’s first 1000BASE-T1 PHY. BCM8988X performs all of the physical layer (PHY) functions for 1000BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, and 10BASE-T Ethernet packets over copper wire, like FlexRay™. The 10BASE-T may also run on standard categories 3, 4, and 5 UTP. The BCM89610 is intended to exceed automotive specifications for noise cancellation and transmission interference, providing consistent and reliable operation over a vast range of existing cable plants. The device is based on Broadcom's digital-signal processor technology that combines digital adaptative equalizers, ADCs, phase-locked loops, line drivers, encoders, decoders, echo cancelers, and other devices that require the support circuitry. The BCM8988X is compliant with RGMII and MII interface specifications, permitting industry-standard Ethernet media access controllers (MACs) and switch controllers compatibility.
Designed for reliable operation over worst-case Category 5 cable plants, the BCM8988X delivers the comprehensive automotive technology solutions required by OEM and Tier 1 suppliers, meeting certifications such as CISPR 25 component-level, ISO 11452-5 Stripline, ISO 11452- 4, IEC 61000-4-2, AEC-Q100, and Grade 1 temperature range. The device automatically connects with its link partner to determine the highest possible operating speed. BCM8988x detects and corrects common wiring problems and polarity automatically. The Specific architectural and design enhancements of the BCM8988X are utilized to increase design for test, reliability, and quality in order to surpass AECQ100 and EMC requirements. Despite, the small size footprint with a 48-pin MLP package, the device is designed to support IEEE 1588 timing function.
